The Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program lowers energy costs for families, particularly for elderly, people with disabilities, and children. Funds are used to improve the energy efficiency of homes using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry. The energy savings resulting from the efforts of Kankakee County Community Services, Inc. helps our county reduce its dependency on foreign oil and decrease the cost of energy for families in need while improving the health and safety of their homes.

MC900150647[1]KCCSI partners with The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to deliver the Weatherization Assistance Program.

KCCSI delivers energy efficient services to eligible residents across the county. Professionally trained staff use computerized energy audits and advanced diagnostic equipment to determine the most cost-effective energy efficiency measures appropriate for each home. Energy conservation assessors also test furnaces and gas appliances for carbon monoxide leaks and combustion safety.

Typical weatherization services include installing insulation: sealing ducts; and stopping heat loss through windows, doors, and infiltration points. Energy conservation workers also install health and safety measures, such as carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Clients are educated on the proper use and maintenance of the installed measures.
